Below are two tapes of Mark playing in his band from high school. The band Jazz Nativity featured Terry Trepper on keyboards, Glenn Luxembourg on guitar, Hyam Sosnow on drums, and Mark Voland on electric bass. They included original pieces, cover of Sunshine of Your Love, and We Gotta Get Out of This Place. They were made in 1969 and 1970 and come to us from David Read.

While I am totally embarrassed by my own (awful if not sincere) playing, I delight in listening to Mark play bass. What a wonderful, nuanced, and technically superb musician he was, and even at 17 displayed such a wonderful sense of musicality. He had great rhythm, an excellent ear, and good solid stage presence. We used to rehearse at his house, and got great support from both his parents, too. We really did have such fun! Terry Trepper
